This week in #globalrj we are focusing on the original text of Romeo and Juliet, learning about the characteristics of a play, the language in Shakespeare’s times and many more interesting facts. We are also comparing this to many possible adaptations of the text: comics, stories, short videos, films, etc.
For this purpose, we worked with a film called Gnomeo and Juliet, which we watched last week. We analysed the characters, setting, and main events, comparing them with the original. We also compared and contrasted the famous “balcony scene” from two perspectives.
Now, to continue our analysis and comparison, we are working with different types of text, summarising their characteristics and trying to answer some questions:
-How are the adaptations similar to the original text?
-How are they different?
-What is interesting about these adaptations? How creative are they?
